CM Punk vs. MVP (U.S Champion) vs. Mark Henry vs. Finlay vs. Christian vs. Kane vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin
Winner: CM Punk after kicking Kane off the top of the ladder
This match was pretty awesome as all the MITB matches usually are. This match has been on the WM bill for 5 years and is usually a spot-fest (lots of high impact spotlight moves that you would see in highlight reels). There wasn't much lag in this match which was pleasent to see spot after spot. CM Punk winning was certainly a swerve to me. I had my money on Christian or Kofi to take it, seeing as no one has won twice before. CM Punk is a still a good pick since I believe he is one of the future champions of the business.
Notable Spots (not all of them):
- Kane and Mark Henry "parting the metal sea" and making Punk, Finlay, Benjamin, and MVP to go down crashing
- The various dives, flips and splashes one after the other by the wrestlers to the outside (espcially Benjamin's flip because he looks like he piledrives his own head into the ground
- Kofi pulling an "Ong Bak" and jumping between the ladder and it's supports to kick Finlay
- Kofi running up a closed ladder being held by Mark Henry and almost grabbing the briefcase, only to fall down into Mark's arms and get World Strongest Slammed into the dropped ladder
- Christian pulling off an Unprettier on CM Punk, from a closed horizontal ladder balanced between the ropes and a standing ladder, down to the ground
- Something I seen for the first time: Christian falling off a teetering ladder only to get on foot on top rope and not fall at all
2.25 Diva Battle Royal
Winner: Santina (omg this was terrible)
Well I am not a big diva match fan unless they can actually wrestle. I was interested at first because they had alot of old school divas in the battle (Molly Holly, Sunny, Jackie Gayda). The problem was with Santino....oh wait excuse me *rolls eyes*..Santina not fighting at all while dressed as a hooker only to win by throwing his girlfriend out when she was eliminating someone. Ghey ghey ghey. Well at least the Kid Rock performance before hand was pretty kickass.
Rating: * (for all the old school divas and the Kid Rock performance)
3. Handicap Elimination Match
Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Steamboat, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and Superfly Jimmy Snuka (w/ Ric Flair in their corner)
Winner: Chris Jericho
This was another one where I wasnt really feeling until later. The buildup was kind of cool in the beginning with the whole Mickey Rourke angle. The problem was when Mickey wasnt the wrestler and he made it a match between 3 legends which made me upset. Superfly definatly isnt able to perform in the ring anymore. I loved him back in the day, but I never want to see him wrestle like he did in this match. Piper did his brawling thing which I expected he was gonna do. The person who impressed me was Steamboat. All he had was a little bit of slowdown from the old days, but performed like a champ. When I saw him get on the turnbuckle I jumped up waiting for the head chop and got it!!! He even "skinned the cat" (pulling yourself up using the top rope and only your arm strength after supposedly being flipped out to the ring mat)!!!!!! Chris still won, which I knew would happen, and Ric came in and got swatted. Then Chris eggs on Mickey Rourke to come in to apologize....instead he gets a left hook LOL!
Rating: ** (for Steamboat performing like he did and the magic Left Hook from Rourke)
4.Extreme Rules Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy
Winner: Matt Hardy
The buildup for this match was done pretty well. I thought that all the things happening to Jeff Hardy before Royal Rumble was going to be Christian being the perp, but Matt Hardy was a pleasent surprise. The emotion angle with even Matt saying indirectly that he burned Jeff's house down (which happened but wasn't him in real life) was awesome. This match was done pretty well as well. Lots of spots and lots of action. This was the stuff from the Hardy TLC action of old. They brought out chairs, ladders, tables, and shopvacs!!!?? This was also a spotfest, but done more methodical. They slowed and sped up the match where you were supposed to. The finish was done awesomely as well (shown in notable spots).
Notable Spots:
- Jeff pulling off Poetry In Motion from the ring steps
- Matt cracking Jeff in the head with a ShopVac...hard!
- Jeff jumping off the top turnbuckle to splash Matt while he was inbetween two setup tables and a chair.
- Jeff missing the leapfrog from a smaller ladder over a taller ladder and landing straight on his tailbone.
- Matt hitting the Twist of Fate on Jeff while his head was inbetween a metal folding chair.
5.Intercontinental Title Match
JBL © vs Rey Mysterio
Winner: Rey Mysterio
This was a squash match, but the squash went to the little guy. First off, I wasn't really into this match. It had no buildup and value in my eyes. I had a feeling Rey would win, but the match was just match to pass the belt and had no story. JBL came out and did his yakkity yaking and praising his self. Rey Mysterio came out and for the second time, I got out of my seat. Rey had his mask done like Heath Ledger's version of the Joker and his gear fit to a T. Purple and green, complete with pocket chains, green hair, and Joker cards!! Rey gets in and gets kicked in the head by JBL before the match starts. They ask Rey if he still wants to compete, he says yes, and then starts the squash. JBL goes for Rey, Rey dodges, gets him on the rope, 619, splash, and thats all they wrote. Then JBL after being at a loss for words....blurts "I Quit" to the fans after his 21 second loss.
Rating: *1/2 (For the Joker inspired Rey costume and the little guy squash)
6. The Streak against Mr. Wrestlemania
Undertaker vs. HBK
Winner: Undertaker
This is hands down one of my favorite matches of all time. The buildup was done well and really had no bad or good person in this feud. They were both top performers trying to get under each others skin. Taker with his undefeated streak and HBK with Taker never able to beat him. This also put to rest who the real Wrestlemania star was. Plus all the symbolism was really thought out.
- HBK burying a The Streak tombstone and the camera panning up to see a 16-1 tombstone
- HBK coming out wearing a white version of Taker's getup and quoting bible scriptures which is the reverse of Taker.
- Even the entrance, had HBK in the same reverse Taker garb coming in from the sky while Taker came from under the ground.
Notable Spots:
- HBK missing Sweet Chin Music and falling into Taker's Hell's Gate finisher, but gets to the ropes.
- Taker trying to suicide dive onto HBK who was on the outside of the ring, but instead HBK pulling the camera man in front so Taker would hit the camera and operator. It looks like he lands on the guys head!!!!
- Taker's Last Ride attempt on HBK into a school boy by HBK back into a Last Ride from Taker that connects.
- HBK trying to "skin the cat" into Taker grabbing HBK as he flips in to perfect position for the Tombstone. It hits and he kicks out! That is rare to see anyone kick out from that.
- Taker going for another Tombstone countered into a floatover DDT!!!!!
- Taker taking 3 Sweet Chin musics the whole match and kicking out.
- Taker catching HBK as he was trying to do a moonsault into the final winning Tombstone. 17-0!!!!!
Ok guys. The next 2 matches were good, but really didn't hold a candle to this match so gonna give you the speed-cap for these.
John Cena beats Edge and Big Show in a Triple Threat to win the World Championship. Only really notable parts is Edge's midair spear on Cena and Cena picking up both Show and Edge on his shoulder into...sigh I will not call it what they renamed his move!...F-U position. Luckily Edge falls off so he F-U's Big Show then F-U's Edge onto Big Show to win.
Rating: ***1/2
Triple H retains his title against Randy Orton. Biggest mark out moment was Randy getting punted in the head by Triple H, just like how Randy has done it to numerous other people. Payback is a bitch!
Rating: ****
Alright folks. That's it. Hope you guys watch it! And lets hope I actually keep up this blog.
Peace!
